Week 39 buhbuhbuhbuhbuh my corona!!!
FRIENDS AND FAMILY, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, CHILDREN OF GOD,
Whats new with you all? Anything fun and exciting been happening around your parts? It has been pretty boring around here honestly. Nothing happening AT ALL...PSYCH ITS A MAD HOUSE.
This week for me as I am sure has been the same for all of you has been unbelievably CRAZY. One thing after another. My new companion Sister Derbidges first week here has been eventful to say the least.
As a missionary we have been asked to get a 2 week supply of food, to not congregate in large groups, and to be cautious but besides that and a few other details its been pretty much business as usual. We had some really good lessons this week but some EVEN better finding times which has been such a blessing!!
With all the crazy going around people are not super keen to find you knocking on their door, however, the Lord will provide. We were able to go teach this guy named Jim who has been taught by missionaries for like 5 years and loves the church, he also WANTS to read the Book of Mormon. Which is v v v cool and we are stoked to go back and see him.
Another cool experience happened on Wednesday. We only had about 10 more minutes of finding but we decided to be diligent and to stop at this potentials house named Lew. It took us a good 5 minutes to find it and we could have easily said that it was a 5 minute drive and just to be done but instead we decided to go to the door. WELL there was this guy named Joe that was sitting outside that we were able to have a really good conversation with. His wife died a few years ago and then a few weeks later his son died unexpectedly as well, ever since then he has had a hard time believing in God. BUT we were able to testify to him of our Savior Jesus Christ and of Gods plan for His children and there was such a sweet spirit. Sadly his son came outside and told us to never come back, but we were able to leave him with our pamphlet and I have the faith that God will lead missionaries to him again one day.
We went to Costco on Friday to get our 2 week supply and it was NUTS. People EVERYWHERE, All freaking out. It was very entertaining to say the least. We asked one of the ladies that worked there if she knew if they had toaster strudels and she said she didn't but that she did have a question for us. We had a long conversation all about the Plan of Salvation and how God is looking out for us and she said that we answered a lot of her questions and brought her peace. Which was really nice. We left her with our pamphlet and we hope she gives us a call.
We had our regular lessons this week and were excited because some of our friends had comitted to coming to church, but alas, God has other plans. However, It was very memorable to be able to gather as a missionary district with the Elders and hold a mini sacrament meeting. It is such a blessing to have the priesthood and the knowledge that the Lord is still guiding us today.
Overall this week was whack but my favorite kind of whack. We are staying healthy and working hard. The prophet Joseph Smith once said:
“The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, (corona may spread), but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.”
The work moves onward and I know that this is all part of Gods perfect plan. Keeping an eternal perspective is the most important thing during these last days.
Stay safe out there
Mucho Love,
Sister Tams
Other/Funny Stuff:
-We went to a members house for a lesson the other day and she was trying to figure out how to say Sister Derbidges named and she just says "not bridges but bidges" it was hilarious.
-I HIT MY 9 MONTHS THIS WEEK AND IT IS INSANITY. I FEEL LIKE I JUST GOT HERE. Good thing I still have 18 months left.
-We have been blaming everything on Corona this week. Its all coronas fault.
-At the end of our talk with Joe he said "There is a Jesus Christ and He is proud of you" it was the sweetest thing in the whole world.
-We stopped by the church yesterday for a potty break and your girl accidentally locked the keys inside...whoops. Luckily our bomb WML rescued us.
-Our wards are still in the midst of combining so this is a very weird limbo that we are in bc we still have 2 people serving in a LOT of the callings (RS pres, YW, etc) Its a little bit of a mess.
-The members here are AMAZING. DO. NOT. WORRY. ABOUT. ME. I am so so so set and so so so healthy and so so so so careful. I have toilet paper and hand sanitizer coming out my ears.
-We cleaned a pool for service this week and I fished out a DEAD MOUSE.
