Week 8 Umbrellas provide Shade?
FRIENDS AND FAMILY, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, CHILDREN OF GOD,
Is it really Pday again? The weeks are flying by people. It was a fantastic week full of blessings! Missions are hard but God is good. Let me tell you about all the fantastic people that I am surrounded with. I told you about Etta (the cute 75 yr/old lady that we went to the temple with) but I don't feel like I did her justice so I am gonna tell you a little more about her.
Etta is 75 years old, she got baptized about a month ago and she won the lottery about a month ago (she won $30,000 lol) and she is still the most humble and selfless lady I have ever met. She has two brothers that are on the autism spectrum that she takes care of daily (bathes, feeds, clothes, all of it) they are both older than she is and she is so kind and loving to them both. We go over there on Saturdays to remind her that tomorrow is Sunday and to teach her a short lesson. This Saturday we taught her more about eternal life. It was one of the sweetest things to testify to her that there is a mansion reserved for her in Heaven and that she will be blessed for all of the amazing things that she does in this life. She is an amazing lady who I adore.
This week we had interviews with President Meservey. He is a really cool guy and I loved being able to sit down and talk with him. He is so patient and kind in all of his doings and I am grateful to have a president like him. We also got to go do a blitz (we go to another area and help them find from 5-7) in the Woodland area with Sister Dribnak and Needham. Sister Bunch made us yummy enchilladas and then we went and talked to some people. We met a guy who didn't believe in God, it made my heart sad. GOD IS REAL people, so REAL. I KNOW IT. He set up a return appointment though so I am really excited for him.
We did service again this week for the Sitt Sisters, I have discovered that I am a wizard with the weed whacker (odd since I am allergic to grass) but nonetheless, I am good at yardwork and I really enjoyed doing service for them! After service they fed us pizza and we taught their caregiver Lina a lesson, she is awesome. We referred her to the Sacramento missionaries and are excited to see her come closer to God.
It was a very busy week with a lot of good finding time, we found 4 new people including this women named Dorothy. Dorothy is incredible. She comes from the roughest childhood I have ever heard of yet she is constantly giving and helping those around us. She told us about how her life did a complete 360 flip because of a member of our church who was her counselor during that hard time. Her love for this women just reminded me that everything that we do, even if we don't get to see the end result, matters. Bringing people closer to God matters, so so much. Offering a kind word or a helping hand matters. Always remember that serving other people matters. I know that in my own life material things cant even hold a candle to the joy I feel when I am serving other people.
Yesterday was fast Sunday so me and my companions decided to fast for our investigator Alfredo. Alfredo has been learning with the missionaries for 5+ months and still hasn't attended church. This week he told us that he would try his best but that he will probably have to work. We prayed all week and we decided to fast that he would attend church and that he would have a spiritual experience. I won't lie and say that I was disappointed and discouraged as the time ticked by in Sacrament meeting and there was no sign of him. BUT THEN a MIRACLE, he CAME! He missed all of sacrament and only came to Sunday school but HE CAME!! I couldn't contain my joy I was just so happy. He didn't have a miraculous experience and decide to get baptized right there but he took the next step and came to see what it was all about and I AM SO GRATEFUL! GOD IS SO GOOD! FASTING WORKS! It made me happy. Our investigator Terrance (AKA Ty) also came to the last half of church and he was in tears by the end of it. He was overwhelmed by the love and the feeling of acceptance displayed at our church. We truly do invite ALL to come and see for themselves what our church is all about.
Today was a very funny week and I will do some of the usual bullet points but YOU GUYS we got attacked by a dog. We were inactive finding and we walk up to this gate and on it is this really cute sign with butterflies on it that says "Beware, dog bites" we looked around the yard and we didn't see a dog anywhere and we knew that we had to try to see this lady, so we made the silly decision to go in the gate. We knocked on the front door 3 times and waited for about 3 minutes and there was no sign of anyone, not a dog not a person nothing. We were about to turn around to leave when this dog comes charging around the corner barking at us. I screamed loud, I will not lie, I was real scared. But luckily my amazing trainer jumped in front of me and the door bit off part of her dress. We got real blessed because turns out the lady actually was home (heard the scream but not the knock I guess) and she rescued us. Sadly Sister Bunches skirt is a casuality but we all survived.
Other/Funny Stuff:
-I taught Sister Bunch and Colipapa how to beatbox (boots and cats people)
-WE GET TRANSFER DOCS ON SATURDAY!
-I made chicken in the crockpot this week!! It was my first time using a crockpot all by myself...I was very proud, it was really good chicken too!
-Sister Colipapa has this cute umbrella that she has been bringing with us everywhere for shade, it makes me laugh...especially since it is black and made for rain, but oh well she enjoys it.
-Yesterday was fast Sunday and we went to the RS presidents house who LOVES to talk, we LOVE her but we had the dinner message before and me and Sister Bunch were pretty sure we were going to faint before we got to the food. It was tortorous.
-Remember Jose (we gave him to the spanish sisters, he was shot and had a heart attack) yeah we got him back this week! Turns out his mom is sadly not that interested and he prefers to learn in English! So yay!
-Last Pday one of my comps accidentally wore my other comps name tag and we didn't notice so I let my other comp wear my extra one and then we realized like halfway through the day, twas funny. (Pictured below)
-We are working on this family tree thing to find more peeps
Also I realized I had more pictures from last week, so enjoy the pictures.
Mucho love,
Sister Tams
