Week 4 Welcome 2 West Wacky
FRIENDS AND FAMILY, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, CHILDREN OF GOD,
I AM LOVING CALI! My last few days in the MTC was bitter sweet, I miss my district and my comp dearly but I cannot say the same about the food. I flew into Santa Rosa on Tuesday and got here around 4! We spent the first night getting to know my mission president then we spent the night at a senior couple's house. The next day we got to go tour a vineyard in Napa Valley which was absolutely beautiful. I love California.
Then I got to meet my trainer, I GOT SO LUCKY, Sister Bunch is my trainer and she is amazing! So obedient and patient and has SUCH a strong testimony, and I got 2 for 1!! So I am in a trio with her and Sister Calipapa! Sister Calipapa is actually a Temple Square missionary that is on her outbound mission, so for about 3 months of her mission they get assigned to somewhere in the states to get more of a mission experience! She has been here for 3 weeks and she has the SWEETEST testimony and spirit. We are serving in West Sacramento which is apparently the armpit of the mission, but personally most of the time I feel like I am back in Ogden.
Although we are in the armpit of the mission we have the nicest apartment which is such a blessing. It is just the 3 of us and we have a clubhouse with free hot chocolate that we LOVE to get. Proselyting/finding is one of my favorite parts of the mission and while I am surprised with how weird I feel as a missionary (let's just say I'm not in Utah anymore) I am loving every second. My trainer always says that I came pre-trained but I don't know about that!
We are teaching a few new people right now all of which I absolutely love. Among those people is Naja and Leonard. We have only had one lesson with each of them but they both have such strong faith and such a desire to learn. Our lesson with Naja was incredible, the spirit was so strong and all of us were in tears, she is amazing. We also have 3 new converts in our ward who all came to church on Sunday, we were SO HAPPY!
Overall I am loving every bit of my mission, we get to drive and meet some pretty interesting people which is cool.
Other stuff:
-This one guy we were talking to told us that Jesus was the first guy on weed and that he was the first surf boarder...apparently when He walked on water he was actually surfing.....interesting guy, we gave him a Book of Mormon...he made me laugh.
-I officially know what weed smells like, quite a few of those we teach smoke during the lessons, haha
-Sister Colipapa is from the Philippines so I got to be there when she experienced her first Costco visit and her first Twinkie!! Epic.
Mucho Love,
Sister Tams
